“Fog of War”是一个纪录片，导演采访了越战初期美国的国防部长Robert McNamara。对于那个时期的历史和政治局面我懂的很少，所以看了之后不能做出什么实实在在的结论。看之前没有什么成见，看之后也就没有东西可以肯定或者推翻。但是这还是一部非常好的片子，让人觉得学到了些什么。
Robert McNamara在六七十年代反战浪潮中臭名昭著。那时侯过来的人认为越战都是他的错，美国没有及时撤出越南是因为他是个好战分子。现在他终于给了这一整代人一个公开答案。中心思想是：我们错了，但我不能为此道歉，这事我本来就作不了主，我是想撤，但是总统LBJ不想撤。他是总统，所以他说了算，我们都只不过是幕僚帮手。当时的总统是总统，幕僚是幕僚，相敬如宾，跟如今的局面大不一样。
都是聪明人。但是聪明和教育最终不能帮助我们在紧要的关头做正确的决定。我们没有先知的能力，我们不了解我们的敌人。我们不可能假设，如果没有当初的某个决定，如今会如何如何。
二次世界大战中美国对日本本土的轰炸，如果最终美国战败，统统可以拿来当做战争犯罪证据。道德是相对的。战争没有理性。
当然，今非昔比。现在的局势完全不同，没什么可以拿来相比的。
害怕么？我们的世界是一个颤颤巍巍立在高跷上的城堡。历史是一个又一个的机遇，一个接着一个溜溜的骰子。

》I know the same thing has been said thousands of times in slightly different variations: war has no morals, war does not right wrongs, etc etc. But that has never stopped people from feeling righteous. We gape and wonder at the vast extent of cruelty that is war, but we don’t understand it. No one who has not been in a war understands it. The movie is not about condemning war, it’s about an explanation for an entire of generation of people ruined by war. He admitted we were wrong. He did not apologize, because it is not within his power.
